Swiss start-ups will be presenting concrete ideas and solutions at the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December 2023.

The climate is changing, both globally and in Switzerland. Many climate indices now provide unequivocal proof of this. The challenges entailed can only be solved on a multilateral level, making the United Nations Climate Conferences (COP) an indispensable forum. The COP serves as a platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and policy development, with the aim of driving meaningful action towards a more sustainable future. 197 countries, as well as the EU, are party to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and will meet for the 28th edition of the COP (COP28) from 30 November to 12 December 2023 in the United Arab Emirates, in Dubai.

Bringing Swiss success to COP28

In parallel to the official Swiss delegation that represents Switzerland's ambitious climate goals in the global context and works towards a positive conference outcome, a first-ever Swiss Village will promote Swiss start-ups that offer concrete and sustainable climate change solutions. The heart of activities will be in the 'Green Zone', a special space open to the public and expected to receive around 30,000 to 50,000 visitors every day. The Zone will provide a space for exhibitions, workshops, and interactive activities related to climate change and sustainability. It will be set up in the venue of the former Expo 2020 Dubai site, reimagined as a mini-city for clean, green and tech-enabled life and work. The Swiss Pavilion at Expo 2020 welcomed 1.7 million visitors, making it one of the most successful country pavilions.

The start-ups representing Switzerland at COP28 cover a wide range of sectors, including clean air technology, sustainable petrochemistry, and blockchain.
